My Short Story

Lady Mustard. Northern rivers, NSW,  AUS.

A bit about me,

Firstly thank you in advance for taking this time to look through and read what I am passionate about. Art is such an important part of life, don’t take yourself to seriously and pick up those coloured pencils and draw whatever washes into your imagination.

So, Lady Mustard you might think to yourself curiously...going by a different more interesting/questionable “name” just seems funner then going by Maddison. I wanted to create some alias that would somewhat compliment what I do creatively and people really dig it and its really stuck. Its been 4 years since Lady Mustard came to and i'm happy to say she’s still catchy and hanging in there.

My on going love for film photography has been flourishing since 2013 when I got my first SLR Olympus OM10. It’s actually quite hard to describe the feeling of using film rather then digital. Maybe its the fact that you only have so many frames on a roll and if you didn’t bring back up rolls thats all you’ve got, so you really have to make the most out of what your working with or once you finish that roll and drop it to your developing genius and wait so patiently, eager to see whats been made of your shutter release.

It’s fun and exciting and I think it makes you really look at moments, objects and people differently; with great appreciation, thats how life should go. Everything has its own story.

Since shooting film I am always looking at the world so differently, like we are living in a live art instillation. Everyday, Its so cool. People are so interesting.

I like to get out there in the big wide world and travel to keep the visuals exciting. Cities are like a circus; they are chaotic and unexpected at times but you can always find calm in the storm. The spots just around the corner that are somewhat slow and quiet all of a sudden. From one extreme to another. And then there is the beach, When I take myself down to the sand I make sure I always have a camera in hand because I think there is just something so fascinating about people who go to the beach. Whether they are going for their morning dip or pitching their parasol for an ultimate beach day. They are all there for the same reason yet almost each and every person is spending their time differently and thats what I like to capture. I can say I respect a pitched parasol; Styley and sun safe.

I can’t always get my kick out of photography because I run out of money to fast so thats where painting and drawing comes in. Putting pen/paint to paper is my form of meditation and I could get lost in it for hours. It’s important to do things that make you feel whole and happy which I feel so lucky for in my life. I found what I feel like I am good at and makes me feel satisfied at the end of the day. If you haven’t found your calling yet, just be patient because its there somewhere. Don’t give up :)

I’m glad I got myself into capturing the world in the most honest way that I can. I’m just going with it and doing whatever brings me fulfilment.

Yours Truly,

Lady Mustard xoxo
